In the village of Kyjatice, original production of furniture has gradually been expanded, including production of toys for children. Thus, the village has become one of the most significant centres of toy production in Slovakia. The author of this article, one of ÚĽUV’s designers and consultants, suggests that when it comes to inspiration for contemporary art and design there are various possibilities to make use of the potential of Kyjatice furniture and toys, their local patterns and shapes. For him, such objects have become the focus of his research; he applauds their historical and ornamental peculiarities, as well as their remarkable construction details.
