The digital design and weaving of textiles is a relatively new field, oscillating between science, research and art or textile design. This modern technology offers many different approaches, and its diapason of output is very wide-ranging; from creating effective binding structure in creating clothing textiles, through experimental approaches using varied materials and digitally woven textile images, to scientific studies which open up new opportunities for use. In addition to technology, it is these very materials used which define the nature, properties and opportunities for use of the textile.
